So Addictive (The Layabouts Addicted To House Vocal Mix)

The notorious deep house remix duo The Layabouts really spazzed on this one! The UK natives namely, Leigh Darlow and Alex Paschali, now veterans on the deep house scene are known for their thumping, soulful sound with rich bass-lines and exquisite cord progressions. They’ve crafted a sound that’s clearly distinguishable from the pack, usually vocal driven but also backed up by quality instrumentation and arrangement.

I was first introduced to their music a couple years ago when I heard their remix of “The Deejay’s An Alien” by David Harness and Roland Clark, I remember thinking “..damn, what a dope bass-line?! Who did this?” I later ran into another remix of theirs “The Pressure” by Haji & Emmanuel ft. Beverly which became a huge hit in the South African club scene, that track just converted me into a loyal disciple.

Leigh and Alex met around 2001 in the UK club circuit, DJ’s and musicians respectively, they started working together doing tracks for Ministry Of Sound. They later started releasing their own independent material on Soulworks and Healthy Records. They’ve consequently released on reputable labels like Defected and Soulfuric but their more recent material however, has been released on Papa Records and Reel People Music. Their popularity has grown to the point where they even tour in South Africa!

There are countless Layabouts tracks I could talk about but for now, this is my flavor of the moment, a beautiful vocal laid over crisp drums, thumping bass-line and simple keys. Note the cord progressions throughout the song that although quite subtle, carry the song to all kinds of spectacular!
