TL Cross is an R&B artist from Queens New York, who grew up singing and playing keys in church. He comes from a family of musicians so his destiny was pretty much sealed from early on. Him and his group, the Gutta Fam, have collectively written and produced music for a wide variety of artists including Usher, Montell Jordan, Ghostface Killah quite a few. So reading his background, it’s no surprise that he’d be the force behind the vocal gem that is “Best Kept Secret”.
Without the magical touch of Abicah Soul, or DJ Stax, whichever moniker you prefer using, this track would probably not have caught my attention. Abicah Soul, deep house DJ and producer from Chicago, started DJ’ing in 1983 when he was 12 years old. He started producing when he was 15 with well known DJ, Glenn Underground. Over the years he has built a reputation for being the go-to guy for an afro/latin influenced remix. Abicah Soul has worked with everyone from Dennis Ferrer to Louise Vega, he’s even worked with quite a few South African talents like Culoe De Song.
“Best Kept Secret” is a simple vocal track that Abicah Soul didn’t have to do much with, but what he did do was provide the perfect simple afro-beat with soothing Rhodes keys and a groovy bass-line to give it that extra funk. Magic! This song really does live up to it’s title, it is truly a best kept secret among deep house lovers.
