DJ Micks ft Robin Latimore - First To Say Goodbye (Rocco Deep Mix)

The story of this song is a really inspirational one. DJ Micks is a South African DJ and producer from Petermaritzburg in KZN. He started making beats on his mother’s PC using Fruity Loops. In 2009 he came across an acapella version of Gladys Knight’s “First To Say Goodbye” and started messing around with it. He was into deep house legends Rocco and Manoo at the time so he did a few mixes that mimicked their styles. He even did a mix mimicking the tribal house pioneer Culoe De Song. He posted the song on Facebook and it blew up. Oskido got hold of the song and it went to number one on his Hot 9 at 9 show on Yfm.

When Tribal Records from the UK got hold of the song, they saw potential in it and got hold of DJ Micks to release the song internationally. Zephren Saint from Tribal Records tracked down Robin Latimore from Atlanta, a vocalist he knew would do justice in covering Gladys Knight’s phenomenal voice, and just like that; DJ Micks and Tribal Records created a monster hit that would later be remixed by legends Rocco and Charles Webster.

There’s nothing much I can say about Rocco that you don’t know already, the impact that he’s made in the deep house scene is incredible. When the French native blesses a track you know it’s going to do damage on the dancefloor. On this remix he keeps to his winning formula, enchanting strings, some funky percussion and a killer hi hat sequence. You just can’t go wrong throwing this track on in any deep house set.
