I'm not even gonna say anything about Beyonce, we all know her story and that she's arguably the most talented and successful R&B/Pop songstress in the world right now. What I am gonna talk about though is the contribution Lars Behrenroth, one of my favourite deep house producers right now, made to the evolution of this song from an R&B ballad to an afro-beat club banger.
Lars was originally born in Germany and immigrated to the USA during the course of life. He started DJing in '86 and eventually, like most DJ's ended up producing in '96. He's become an icon in the deep house world, especially since launching his internet radio show, Deeper Shades of House, which is also the name of record label.
On this piece, he keeps it simple with a banging afro-beat and some rhodes keys, and let's Beyonce shine like the diva she is. Written by J.Que and Babyface, this song takes you to soulful heaven and I'm gonna put my head on the block and say this track is gonna be a big hit in SA in the coming months.
